An automatic fire alarm system is designed to detect the presence of fire by monitoring environmental changes associated with combustion. A fire alarm system is classified as either automatically actuated, manually actuated, or both. Fire alarm systems are intended to notify the building occupants to evacuate in the event of a fire or other emergency, report the event to an off-premises location to summon emergency services, and to prepare the structure and associated systems to control the spread of fire and smoke.
New codes and standards especially the new UL Standard 2572, the U.S. Department of Defence’s UFC 4-021-01 Design and O&M Mass Notification Systems, and NFPA 72 2010 edition Chapter 24 have led Fire Alarm System Manufacturers to expand their systems voice evacuation capabilities to support new requirements for mass notification including support for multiple types of emergency messaging (i.e. inclement weather emergency, security alerts, amber alerts). The major requirements of a mass notification system are to provided prioritized messaging according to the local facilities emergency response plan. The emergency response team must define the priority of potential emergency events at site and the fire alarm system must be able to support the promotion and demotion of notifications based on this emergency response plan. EmergencyCommunication System’s also have requirements for visible notification in coordination with any audible notification activities to meet requirements of the American’s with Disabilities Act. Recently many manufacturer’s have made efforts to certify their equipment to meet these new and emerging standards including The Mircom Group of Companies. Mass Notification System Categories include the following:
Tier 1 Systems are In-Building and provide the highest level of survivability
Tier 2 Systems are Out of the Building and provide the middle level of survivability
Tier 3 Systems are “At Your Side” and provide the lowest level of survivability
Notification Systems often extend the notification appliances of a standard fire alarm system to include PC based workstations, text based digital signage, and a variety of remote notification options including email, text message, rss feed, or IVR based telephone text-to-speech messaging.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is the use of video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific place, on a limited set of monitors. It differs from broadcast television in that the signal is not openly transmitted, though it may employ point to point (P2P), point to multipoint, or mesh wireless links. Though almost all video cameras fit this definition, the term is most often applied to those used for surveillance in areas that may need monitoring such as banks, casinos, airports, military installations, and convenience stores.
In industrial plants, CCTV equipment may be used to observe parts of a process from a central control room when the environment is not suitable for humans. CCTV systems may operate continuously or only as required to monitor a particular event. A more advanced form of CCTV, utilizing Digital Video Recorders (DVRs), provides recording with a variety of quality and performance options and extra features (such as motion-detection and email alerts). Decentralized IP-based CCTV cameras, some equipped with megapixel sensors, support recording directly to network-attached storage devices, or internal flash for completely stand-alone operation.

PST understands the unique challenges of the detention industry better than any other integrator in the market. PST uses the OSSI Intelli-Site platform that was designed from the ground up by developers that came from the detention industry. OSSI’s Intelli-site software platform provides a common user programming interface which can be serviced by multiple organizations, unlike custom systems written in SCADA software which become proprietary.
Area of Rescue Assistance Systems have received wide industry acceptance and acclaim. Our Area of Rescue systems utilize highly intuitive voice communication capabilities, quickly initiated by simply pressing a call station button, which transmits the signal to a central annunciator panel and/or telephone line. A tone and a flashing light notify the caller that an alarm has been received. The caller need not take any other action to communicate with the control station, an important feature when a caller is under stress in an emergency situation.
